Costa Rica, like many other locations these days, does accept US dollars in most places. It is not necessary to get ahold of any Costa Rican “colones” before you arrive in the country. Have on hand some US dollars (especially in smaller denominations like $10s, $5s and $1s), your debit card and your passport. Both international airports have ATMs that dispense colones and it’s a good idea to take out some local money once you get here. Read more »
