Paola is Costa Rican, and a graduate of the American Business Academy. She worked as an Executive Secretary for several years, and had her own business in San José. Subsequently, she and a partner took over the administration of a French restaurant in Heredia, where she spent five years meeting and interacting with people from all around the world. From this experience she became interested in tourism and began working with a French-Costa Rican tour company in sales & operations. Read more »

Lucie Angers

Lucie is originally from Quebec City, Canada, where she studied Education before changing career paths to found her own import-export company. There she learned the ins and outs of marketing and international business practices, and travelled extensively in North America, Asia and Latin America, developing a love of different cultures and countries which eventually led her to Costa Rica in 2005.

Julio López

Spanish Coordinator & Professor

Julio is a native of San José, where he obtained his BA in Spanish Philology from the University of Costa Rica. He subsequently entered the National University of Costa Rica for his Post-Graduate Certificate in Literature and Linguistics, and is now completing his Master's in Educational Administration. He worked as an assistant professor at the University of Costa Rica, and participated in the development of several literature projects. Read more »

Estefanía Vargas Castro

Estefanía grew up in the Sámara area, and now lives in Sámara center close to her family. Before joining Intercultura Sámara Language School she helped run her family's restaurant in Sámara, well known for its excellent food! In addition to working, Estefanía studies law part-time at the Universidad Latina, and in her free time enjoys learning languages, spending time with her young son, cooking, socializing and biking. Jessica

Jessica is originally from the Chicago area in the US.  She studied English Literature and Spanish and began her career as an education testing consultant for Pearson Educational Measurement, she managed scoring contracts for the Florida Department of Education Reading Assessments, and continued teaching ESL as she had since 1997.  Her growing interest in language, travel and culture led her to pursue a teaching degree, licensing her as a K-12 ESL teacher, followed by a Masters degree in English as a Read more »

Christiane

Christiane is from Germany, where she grew up and went to school, except for one year spent at a high school in the United States. She studied Business Administration with a major in Controlling and Marketing-Management at the University of Applied Sciences in Erfurt, Germany. While she was in University, she worked in Marketing and Public Relations at an international solar energy company. Through that work experience and her final studies in Global Branding she developed a strong interest in marketing communications. Carlos Castillo Araya

Carlos (Charley) is a native of Sámara, Guanacaste. He obtained his Bachelors in Business Administration from the National University in Nicoya, and is currently completing his post-graduate certificate in Business Administration with an emphasis in Finance. He joined Intercultura’s accounting department in 2011, after managing an area business and running a family-owned business for several years. In his free time Charley enjoys playing football (soccer), the beach and kayaking.
