Intercultura's group classes consist of four hours per day (Monday to Friday) of intensive Spanish language study. Classes in Samara are offered in the mornings (8:00am - 12:00pm) or afternoons (1:00pm - 5:00pm) according to available levels. Prices include course and registration fees for both the Heredia and the Sámara Beach campus, textbooks, and materials.  The maximum number of students per class is 6, with a minimum of 2. Classes containing only 1 student may be reduced to 3 hours per day instead of 4. Prices are given per student.

Homestays are offered at both our Heredia city and Sámara beach campuses.  The homestay includes a 7 night stay from Sunday to Sunday, breakfast, dinner, laundry facilities and a private room. Please click here to read more about Intercultura's family homestay options.  Students may add up to a maximum of 4 additional nights with their host family.  After 4 nights, the full week rate will be charged.

Almost the entire amount that students pay go to our host families and Intercultura only keeps a very small administration fee to help pay for our homestay coordinator, student support, house visits, evaluations, etc. This is yet another way that we give back to the community, and by participating in the immersion program, not ony will you learn about the culture and practice the language, but you will also directly help your host families with the upkeep of their houses (purchasing furniture, paying rent, repairs, etc.) and with maintaining their family members (school, medication, food etc.).

Monday to Friday, teens will receive 4 hours of intensive Spanish classes, where each teacher will have no more than 6 students.  They will have many other opportunities to apply the language while learning how to cook a typical dish in our Costa Rican cooking classes, practicing their new Salsa steps in our Latin dance classes or watching a movie in Spanish.  At night, they will practice their Spanish with their new “Tico” (Costa Rican) family, and on half-day trips and weekends they will do zip-lining and rafting, go on a Tarzan swing, do a high ropes course, explore some natural hot springs, hike through the rainforest, ride horses in the jungle, see gigantic waterfalls, sea turtles and crocodiles, explore volcanoes and get to know the abundant wildlife and landscapes of Costa Rica.  Please click here for more information on Intercultura's Teen Camp sessions.  Prices are per 2 week session, and do not include international airfare.

NOTE: Please see NATIONAL and SCHOOL HOLIDAYS at the end of this page, for the days on which classes will not be held at Intercultura. There are no discounts for the weeks that contain a closed day. Those which fall on weekends do not affect your stay. Holidays that fall between Tuesday and Thursday may be moved to Friday in order to give a long weekend. Homestays are not affected.



Check with your telephone provider before arrival to determine if your particular telephone is compatible and open to use with Costa Rican SIM cards.  SIM cards are available at the Juan Santamaría International (SJO) airport and at local telephone offices, but it is a much easier process to purchase them inside of the airport as the local telephone offices generally have long lines.  Bring your phone and have your own local number!

OTHER:  Although we offer access to travel planning resources and an experienced tour guide for free to our students, actual weekend excursions, tours and additional cultural activities are offered at a small cost.  Friends and family are welcome to join us for these when space permits.

 

PAYMENT METHOD:

All prices are listed in U.S. dollars. Program fees may be paid upon arrival at Intercultura in US dollars, Euros, Costa Rican colones, Visa or Master card, traveler's check or international money order, or in advance with a wire transfer.  If paying by international money order or traveler's checks, these must be made out to the following in order to be accepted for payment:

if you are starting at the Sámara beach campus.

* Note: The student will be responsible for any additional bank fees or wire transfer fees in addition to the language study program cost.


Please note that per-week prices are discounted for longer stays, providing all weeks are registered and paid for at the beginning of the program. Extensions during the 1st four weeks that are made after the program has begun will not be given discounted rates, but will be charged at the basic 1st-week rate. After the first 4 weeks, however, additional weeks are offered at a discounted rate.

NOTE: We do not recommend paying by credit card, as banks charge a high percentage or fee for foreign transactions. Reservations will be guaranteed with a credit card number or a 20% deposit. No refunds are given after the program has begun, except in the case of a documentable emergency, in which case 50% of the unused portion of the fees may be returned at the discretion of the administration.

 

START DATES:

Classes start every Monday, except when school is closed for a National Holiday, in which case classes will start on the Tuesday.
