Spanish for Specific Purposes

 In addition to our regular 20 hour per week intensive Spanish programs, Intercultura offers Spanish for specific purposes in the form of private classes (only available in low season), as well as combined Spanish and activity programs and customized classes.  Spanish and Yoga: 

Learn Spanish 4 hours per day and take yoga classes daily: available at beach campus only. Certified yoga instructors teach in a variety of yoga styles, at yoga facilities on and close to the beach, in addition to the school's own free yoga program (3 times a week). You decide how much yoga you want to do. 

 

Survival Spanish for first time travellers

Planning a trip to Costa Rica and wish to visit remote places and be independent and rely purely on your Spanish skills to communicate with locals? Learn the ropes of the language in handy situations such as: booking hotels, going out to a restaurant, making reservations on a tour, finding your way around or simply asking someone to take a picture of your group. Available at Heredia city campus, from March to May and August to December.

 

 Spanish and Surfing - Sámara only

 Take Spanish classes four hours a day and daily surf lessons/practice. Upon arrival, you will set up the program with our cooperating surf school, who will schedule your classes based on your preferences, and the tide charts. All packages include the use of the surfboard for the weeks you are here. Prices are approximately $30 per hour for surf lessons and lessons include free board use for students.  

 

Spanish and Paddle Boarding - Sámara only

After your daily group Spanish lessons, get out onto the water and learn this exciting new sport with the help of expert local instructors! Those who choose to combine Spanish with  paddle boarding can enjoy low-tide paddling to look for sea-turtles and other marine life, or take longer trips out to deserted Chora Island, depending on their skill and fitness levels. We recommend setting up the program upon arrival. Prices are approximately $40 for the initial 3 hour class and tour to the island, followed by rentals at $15 for two hours.

Spanish and Salsa - Heredia Only

Learn how to dance salsa, meregue, cumbia, bacchata and other popular Latin Dances.  Take lessons 4 times a week and take part in special excursions to dance clubs in Heredia and the surrounding area. 

 

Spanish and Horse riding - Samara only
Enjoy hidden trails, quiet side-roads, follow a river, go to a waterfall or canter your horse on the beach as you watch the sunset. You will have a great opportunity to see birds, monkeys and the amazing flora of Costa Rica. Horses are well-trained and easy to handle. Enjoy up to 4 hours a day on Costa Rican western saddle before or after your Spanish classes in cowboy country Guanacaste: available at beach campus only. You decide how many rides you wish to take. Prices start at $35 per 2.5-hour tour.  

 

Spanish for 50+
Whether you would like to explore a new and exotic part of the world, travel with a group of like-minded, adventurous adults, or enhance your mental capacities by training your brain to learn a new language, Intercultura's Spanish for 50+ programs offer a unique, cultural learning experience. Enjoy studying Spanish in group classes with OPTIONAL 1-on-1 tutoring, with our highly qualified (and fun!) teachers in the colonial city of Heredia and the beautiful pacific beach town of Sámara. Optional cultural program includes: visits to galleries, museums, indigenous communities, music and dance performances and Latin films… and travel throughout this exciting, yet safe and peaceful country to rainforests, national parks, tropical islands, and more! Available at beach and city campuses, MINIMUM 4 people required.

Spanish for Medical Personnel - Heredia campus only

Have you ever had to treat a patient from one of the largest-growing immigrant groups, and not been able to understand what is wrong with them? If you learn Spanish, most of these cases could be resolved without the need for professional translators, simply by being able to speak their language. Intercultura’s courses will teach you the language you need to know for medical communication in Spanish. Only available at Heredia city campus, from March to May and August to December, in private classes or pre-formed groups.

If your work involves helping any part of the Latin American population in your country, you know that speaking Spanish is vital for effective case-and clinical work. Intercultura’s specialized courses teach profession-based vocabulary, focusing on simulating real-life cases and increasing language competency in typical and unpredictable situations. Only available at Heredia city campus, from March to May and August to December, in private classes or pre-formed groups.

Spanish for Tourism - Heredia campus only
Work in tourism, or want to? You need to be able to communicate competently and professionally in order to work in one of the largest tourist industries in the world- Latin America. At the same time, enhance your own effectiveness and value in your work at home by becoming more competent in your communication with Spanish speakers and clients from Latin America. We will teach you what you need to know to succeed in Spanish in the tourism industry. Only available at Heredia city campus, from March to May and August to December, in private classes or pre-formed groups.

Spanish for Airline Personnel - Heredia campus only
Want to increase your routes to include new destinations? Learning Spanish opens up Latin America and Spain, enabling you to earn more, while travelling to many exciting countries! We suggest regular group classes for general Spanish mastery, plus private classes as necessary to build up industry-specific vocabulary (private classes available only in Heredia, from March to May and August to December).

Learning Spanish and understanding Latin American culture are necessities for successful and productive police work in today’s society. More than just learning to speak the language, you will learn to read between the lines, to understand the nuances of high-stress communication, and how to diffuse these situations with competent and culturally-sensitive Spanish language skills. Only available at Heredia city campus, from March to May and August to December, in private classes or pre-formed groups.
